For nearly three years now, Anne had been living in Teleios, and for one of those years, she had been married. Of course, being the wife of Archie Hopper had proven every bit as blissful as Anne always imagined. In that time, Anne had been able to discover the beauty of a true and loving marriage and had never stopped cherishing the mornings she would wake with Archie by her side, and of course, the nights they enjoyed before then. It had been no secret that getting wed had opened Anne's eyes to many things she'd never known of before, but a year later, it's fair to say she's considerably more educated than she had once been. Perhaps, then, it comes as no surprise that following a healthy year of marriage, that it should one day prove fruitful.
For it hadn't taken long for Anne to talk of children. Although her views were considerably dated, for her it was both natural and important to have a growing family as soon as possible. With Teleios' uncertainty and dangers now long past, there was no delay other than their own preferences. A preference Anne was quick to declare, and before long they found themselves in a monthly ritual of hopes and prayers and exercising every opportunity to enhance their chances of success.
The first time Anne had been shown a pregnancy test had been both delightful and disappointing in equal measure. With Anne's intrigue at such an invention quickly turning sour when it didn't give her the answer she wanted. It didn't the second month, or the third month, each one slowly chipping away at Anne's boundless optimism. It did come with some advantages however; for every negative result, Anne took as a personal challenge to overturn (and thoroughly exercise her marital rights.)
When it came to the next month, Anne was trying not to get her hopes up when they once again went to purchase the pregnancy test, and once again took the (always seemingly slower) walk home, with Anne wobbling between the excitement of possibility and the fear of failure. Her hand tightened through Archie's in silent request for some support, just to hear him say something optimistic and make her smile again. She knew her dear husband could always manage that.
